Parents

The most common complaint that I hear from parents is that kids don’t come with an owner’s manual!  The problems we face raising our children can be glaringly obvious at times.  What’s not so obvious is what to do about it!!

I offer a 6 week, 18 hour class that focuses on the 2 most important aspects of creating change in your parenting: what to do, and how to manage yourself and your thinking so that you are able to do what you need to do.

Join me and learn to:

  • focus on problem solving without judging the child
  • identify your parenting goals
  • understand the reasons behind your child’s behavior
  • help your children feel good about themselves
  • get comfortable with feelings and their expressions
  • discipline with kindness
  • unify your family
  • encourage children to be responsible for their actions
  • use logical and natural consequences
  • drop power struggles and develop win/win strategies
  • eliminate sibling rivalry and enrich sibling relationships
  • use positive communication skills
  • have more fun

Parenting is just like anything else in life you would want to do well.  If you want to do the best job you can do, tune up your skills and up your game.  Read, practice, discuss, bring in resources, call an expert and get some new ideas.   When you have some new skills in hand, a change in your thinking, and a willing heart, you get results.

I recommend both parents taking the class together whenever possible as a first step. I am also available for private parenting coaching either in person or by telephone as needed.  In addition, I work  individually helping moms and dads resolve whatever longstanding personal issues there might be that affect their ability to parent in present time.

Parenting our children is the one arena in which every parent wants to be successful. We want to bring our best to our children. It’s worth the investment of time and energy to make that happen. It is my true joy in life to be part of that process for families.

Children

I work with children individually for behavioral, developmental, emotional and/or academic concerns.  Sessions run about an hour, but may be shorter (for very young children) or longer (for teens) as dictated by the needs and age of the child.  A typical session will primarily consist of Brain Gym, Brain Reflex Integration and a limited amount of coaching and strategizing, again per the age and needs of the child.  With children, everything is about learning and the joy of discovery, so I use movement, play, and fun as much as possible.

I see children beginning in infancy through the teen years for issues such as:

  • Developmental milestones
  • Academic performance and learning issues
  • Organization and self management
  • Social issues and friendships
  • Anger, moodiness, self entitlement, acting out
  • Helping kids manage their behaviors and choices
  • Family relationships, including divorce related concerns
  • Physical skills maturation and development
  • Issues of self worth and confidence/discouragement
  • Anxiety and anxiety based disorders
  • Autism and spectrum related diagnoses
  • Mental health issues
  • ADD and ADHD

This work is completely complementary and compatible with any other forms of intervention your child might be receiving, such as medical care, occupational or physical therapy.

During a session, I require at least one parent to be present.  It is important that the child who is the client be the focus of the session and free from distraction, and that the parent present be available for coaching and instruction on any “homeplay” needed.  To that end, I ask parents not to bring siblings and/or other children to the session.

My goal for the children who are my clients is that they are supported in the very big job of growing up and becoming an adult, that they know that they are wonderful just as they are, and that more is open to them.  I really enjoy the children I work with and they know it!

Adults

In my practice, I see people of all ages and abilities who want improvements in the quality of their lives. Typically the adult clients I have are functioning well in most areas of their lives, but have some “trouble spots” that they want help managing.  The optimal number of sessions required for redress varies with each individual, and their desired outcome.  However, each session is a discrete, self contained and goal related process.  The average length of a session is 1 ½ to 2 hours and can be tailored to suit the client.

Together we can address a wide variety of distressing or challenging situations, including:

  • Stress management, burnout, exhaustion
  • Insecurity, low self-worth
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Learning and performance issues
  • Limiting beliefs
  • Physical illnesses, conditions and the return to health
  • Reclamation and retention of abilities as we age
  • Worries, fears, anxiety and phobias
  • Painful memories, grief and traumatic experiences
  • Moodiness, sadness, depression
  • Conflict resolution

My goal as a practitioner is simple.  I believe that each of us is entitled to live a good, productive, content life and to be able to retain our equilibrium in the face of life’s challenges.   Many times people believe that their personal situation, whatever it might be, just simply prevents them from having that. My work focuses on helping clients remove obstacles and add internal resources so that they can create their exceptional life, regardless of their circumstances.

Don’t waste a minute being unhappy. Your goals are the road maps that guide you and show you what’s possible for your life. Deciding to act on that— choosing a goal and pursuing  it— that is the one step that changes everything. Go for it!
